Clients often tell me their wedding MC is a great public speaker, or often gives speeches as part of their job.  Confidence is great, but once again the guests just need to know what’s happening next, and the MC needs to know all the components of the next event are ready.

Being a confident speaker is only any good once the prep is done.  No point turning on the microphone and confidently announcing the first dance if the bride isn’t even in the room, or the band have taken a break.

For example, when it comes time to announce the first dance for example, here’s a few things you MC should probably check BEFORE even turning on the microphone:

  1. Is the first song ready – talk to the DJ/band/iPod operator
  2. If the photographer/videographer are still there, are they ready to capture it all?
  3. Are the VIPs in the room?
  4. Is there a bride and groom in the room, and do they know it’s time for the first dance?  Are they ready?
  5. Does the lighting need to be adjusted?
  6. How long will they dance for and do I (the MC) invite others to join them?

There’s a lot more things you COULD check but that’s an example.

I hope this helps!
